There are many important reasons why people should attend “church” where the gospel is preached. One reason is so they will hear the gospel, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
In the words of C.H. Spurgeon: The Preaching of the Word by the chosen servants of the living God, is the ordained means for the gathering in of the elect. It is not the Word read, so much as that which is heard, which has the promise attached to it; hence the importance of a devout attendance on the ministry of the Gospel. (The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Vol. 1, page 2)
