The mode of preaching and the manner of speech

C.H. Spurgeon: We have most certainly departed from the usual mode of preaching, but we do not feel bound to offer even half a word of apology for so doing, since we believe ourselves free to use any manner of speech which is calculated to address the truth upon our hearers. (The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit Vol. 1, page 2)

Note: The truth should be spoken in love. However, that does not mean that it should be spoken softly, with an overly sensitive concern of offending or alienating its hearers who by nature are already alienated from God. It should be spoken boldly in “any manner of speech which is calculated to address the truth upon our hearers.”
