Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us

Daily Light Devotions - October 16 - Evening

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us ...

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. 1

Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. 2

Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 3

Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, 4

And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD. 5

and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, 6

Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 7
