As the sufferings of Christ abound in us ...

For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.  1

that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,  2

But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.  3

The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; 4

and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. 5

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.  6

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,  comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. 7
