What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise

Bagster's Daily Light - August 27 - Evening

What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise.

So the captain came and said to him, "What do you mean, you sleeper? Arise, call out to your god! Perhaps the god will give a thought to us, that we may not perish." 1

Arise and go, for this is no place to rest, because of uncleanness that destroys with a grievous destruction. 2

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3

Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. 4

Now set your mind and heart to seek the LORD your God. Arise and build the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy vessels of God may be brought into a house built for the name of the LORD." 5

and he said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation." 6

"But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. 7

As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. 8

For, "Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; 9

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 10

Therefore stay awake-- for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning-- lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 11
