Daily Light Devotions - Daily Light Devotions - September 11 - Evening
Man goeth forth unto his work ...
Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening. 1
By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." 2
For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 3
and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, 4
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going. 5
We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 6
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 7
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 8
So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 9
saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' 10
to whom he has said, "This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose"; yet they would not hear. 11
