Neither shall there be leaven seen within thee.

Daily Light Devotions - September 3 - Morning

Neither shall there be leaven seen within thee...

Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen with you, and no leaven shall be seen with you in all your territory. 1

The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. 2

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 3

Abstain from every form of evil. 4

See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no "root of bitterness" springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled; 5

If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. 6

Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 7

Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 8

But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity." 9

For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 10

You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. 11
