Watchman, what of the night?

Daily Light Devotions - September 6 - Evening

Watchman, what of the night?

The oracle concerning Dumah. One is calling to me from Seir, "Watchman, what time of the night? Watchman, what time of the night?" 1

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 2

"From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 3

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. 4

He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 5

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. 6
