He that is of a merry heart hath a ... feast

Daily Light Devotions - July 20 - Evening

He that is of a merry heart hath a ... feast.

All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast. 1

Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." 2

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 3

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 4

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. 5

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. 6

as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 7

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 8
