She hath done what she could

Daily Light Devotions - July 18 - Evening

She hath done what she could.

She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 1

And he said, "Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 2

For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward. 3

For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 4

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 5

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 6

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 7

So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.'" 8
