Daily Light Devotions - July 17 - Evening
Sanctification of the Spirit.
But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. 1
Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits. 2
For see what earnestness this godly grief has produced in you, but also what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what punishment! At every point you have proved yourselves innocent in the matter. 3
(for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 4
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 5
and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 7
for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 8
All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. 9
