Bagster's Daily Light - January 5 - Evening
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth ...
Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! 1
If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 2
for they made his spirit bitter, and he spoke rashly with his lips. 3
it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person." 4
A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. 5
There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. 6
but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 7
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 8
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 9
and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless. 10
