He bowed his head, and gave up the ghost

Daily Light Devotions - August 4 - Morning

... He bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. 1

looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 2

I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 3

And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. 4

by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 5

For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father." 6

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 7
