Fight the good fight of faith

Daily Light Devotions - March 5 - Evening

Fight the good fight of faith.

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1

For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn--fighting without and fear within. 2

He said, "Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." 3

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 4

Then David said to the Philistine, "You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 5

This God is my strong refuge and has made my way blameless. He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 6

Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, 7

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8

Then Elisha prayed and said, "O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see." So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 9

And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets-- who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 10
