As the Father hath life in himself

Daily Light Devotions - May 18 - Morning

As the Father hath life in himself ...

For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 1

and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 2

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 3

Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 4

For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 5

For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 6

by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 7

Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. 8

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!" And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 9

which he will display at the proper time--he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. 10

To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 11
