Vanity of vanities; all is vanity

Daily Light Devotions - May 10 - Evening

Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. 1

For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. 2

If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. 3

For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come. 4

"For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. 5

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. 6

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 7

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 8

And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!" 9
