Thy name shall be called Israel

Daily Light Devotions - May 31 - Morning

Thy name shall be called Israel.

Then he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed." 1

In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and in his manhood he strove with God. He strove with the angel and prevailed; he wept and sought his favor. He met God at Bethel, and there God spoke with us-- 2

No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 3

And Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 4

And Jesus said to him, "'If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes." 5

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord." 6

The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" 7
