Awake to righteousness, and sin not

Daily Light Devotions - May 11 - Morning

Awake to righteousness, and sin not.

Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame. 1

For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 2

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 3

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 4

Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O house of Israel? 5

Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 6

And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him. 7
